    Water Bath
  • 6 cups water
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 t honey
  • Glaze
  • 4 egg whites
  • Dough
  • 1 pkg yeast
  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 t salt
  • 1 T honey
  • Hot water to pull dough together
  • Cornmeal or Jiffy Cornbread Mix


  1. Add flour and salt to mixer.
  2. Combine honey, yeast, and 1 cup of water and allow yeast to activate, then add to flour.
  3. Turn mixer on and continue adding water a little at a time until dough starts to come together and form a ball.
  4. Cover dough and let rest for 35-45 minutes.
  5. Punch dough down and form into discs the size of rolls/buns that you prefer.
  6. Cover and allow to rest an additional 25-35 minutes.
  7. Boil water bath and place each roll in 30 seconds per side and remove to drying rack.
  8. Cut an "X" through the top of the dough.
  9. Baste with egg whites
  10. Place on a cookie sheet lined with Jiffy.
  11. Bake at 400 degrees for 20-30 minutes until outside turns dark brown.
